PANDORAS BOX
(Hali Hammer)
Pandoras Box, bejeweled and shining, its contents shut so tight within
What nestled in its cushioned lining should not be freed by mortal hand
She should have never had those yearnings to open up the lid so wide
Whatever treasures there were hidden, she should have kept them safe inside
But she tossed back her head, and she beamed out a smile
And with no thought or care, as naïve as a child
She relaxed, freed the latch and released all the woes of the world
Ive loved so much, Ive loved so many
Ive loved and lost, Ive loved and grown
But once too often my heart was opened
Till now what was inside has flown
The siren song of love enticed me, I should have kept feelings inside
They lured me, begging for no caution - I threw the latch, it opened wide
Should have left it alone, but I let loose my fate
Taunting demons so bold had escaped, now too late
All my tears drained me cold, left a desert where once was a soul
And now my heart, it feels so hollow
As without love I must go on
But like Pandoras Box of legend
Hope still remains when all is gone
Remains inside when all else is gone.
