I lived in Berkeley when the rents were low - I had a lifestyle & a little dough
I had a job, I made enough each day to have some cash, but not stash any away
Then I got the news, the company changed its policy
I’d keep my job at half the hours, half the pay
Couldn’t file for unemployment, couldn’t keep my place
And my belongings took up all my rented storage space

So now I’m living in a P.O. Box - Living in a P.O. Box
Oh, the rents they are a-risin’ while the company’s downsizing’
So I’m living in a P.O. Box

I can’t get over how my life has been revamped
My body & my social life have both been cramped
I hardly have enough room to pull up my socks
I guess I should be thankful for a door that locks!
     I go to work & then I come home to unwind
     There’s not enough room in here to unload my mind
     I don’t like to feel like some kind of malcontent
     But I can’t get ahead enough to pay some rent

And so I’m living in a P.O. Box - Living in a P.O. Box
Oh I’ll never get a shower with Republicans in power
Cause I’m living in a P.O. Box

I slept in late on Sunday & to my surprise
I saw two folks slip from a box of even smaller size
From many more compartments people squeezed on out
To talk of how this situation came about
     We’d like to ask you to come over very soon
     We’d host a meeting, but we just don’t have the room
     And don’t say it’s not a problem, ‘cause if you insist
     You’ll find post office boxes have a waiting list

You could be waiting for a P.O. Box - waiting for a P.O. Box
Don’t you say that you don’t care or you might find yourself in there
And you’ll be living in a P.O. Box - Living in a P.O. Box, living in a P.O. Box
Better see what you can do or it might end up being you -
Don’t be living in a P.O. Box!
